Physical abuse may include attacks, like slaps or pushes; physical threats; or forcibly restraining a resident.
Physical abuse indicators
Certain injuries – like cigarette burns or rope abrasions – may indicate physical abuse. So might certain behaviors, like a history of similar injuries; not seeking medical attention; or telling a variety of stories about the injury.
Preventing resident physical abuse
The best way to prevent (or notice the signs of) physical abuse is to visit often. Loved ones can look out for the signs of physical abuse. Encourage your loved one to speak up about their concerns.
